To contribute to women and girls living with reduced gender-based violence and fear of it through effective women-led violence against women and girls (VAWG) programming.

Objectives of the Activity

  • To present the intentions of the project to the traditional ruler and get his buy-in in support of actions that will address social and cultural norms that promotes violence against women and girls (VAWG).

Outcomes of the Activity

  • His Royal Highness gave his support to actions targeted at ending violence against women and girls in his community.

Next Steps
Having achieved the purpose of the visit, IWOGRA will revisit the community for the Capacity Building Training of Women and Girls on Cultural and Social Norms that promotes VAWG.

IWOGRA obtained the consent of the traditional ruler and his cabinet members to work in the community thereby leading to community acceptance of the project.

Project Goal
To improve the ability of girls and young women to respond to challenging situations, place emphasis on joint accountability, with the aim of collective empowerment and healing.
Objectives of the Activity

  • To present IWOGRA’s intention to the traditional ruler and get his approval to carry out a 6-months project that will help a group of girls and young women build up resilient, and improve their physical, emotional and mental wellbeing.

Outcomes of the Activity

  • The traditional ruler gave his support to the implementation of the project in his community and his commitment to give every necessary support when needed in the course of the project and beyond.

Next Steps
IWOGRA will organise a Capacity building training for ending violence, improving mental health and wellness for girls and young women in Piwoyi Community.

Capacity Building Training for Women and Girls on Cultural and Social Norms that Promotes Violence Against Women and Girls, Jikwoyi Community, Abuja

Project Goal
To contribute to women and girls living with reduced gender-based violence and fear of it through effective women-led violence against women and girls (VAWG) programming.
Objectives of the Activity

  • To build the capacities of the women and girls to be able to organize and demand protection in their community and an end to VAWG.
  • To build their understanding on what VAWG means, how it manifests, how they can challenge social and cultural norms that promotes VAWG and live without fear of gender-based violence.
  • To equip the community-based women and girls with the required skills needed to lead step-down trainings, support other community members and end victim blaming.

Outcomes of the Activity

  • 50 women and girls trained thereby resulting in increased knowledge on what VAWG means, how it manifests and how they can challenge sociocultural norms that promote VAWG. This is evident in the Pre and Post-test conducted before and after the training.
  • Commitments from the participants to use the knowledge in improving their status.

Next Steps
IWOGRA will organize the Cross Community Shared Learning. This will involve participants from the project communities and it will be an opportunity for the beneficiaries of our interventions to share experiences on challenges faced and successes made in the course of changing social and cultural norms that promotes VAWG in their communities. They will also develop strategies for campaigns on issues that will contribute to ending VAWG.

Capacity Building Training for Ending Violence, Improving Mental Health and Wellness for Girls and Young Women, Piwoyi Community, Abuja, Nigeria

Project Goal
To improve the ability of girls and young women to respond to challenging situations, place emphasis on joint accountability, with the aim of collective empowerment and healing.
Objectives of the Activity

  • To build the capacity of a group of girls and young women on the importance of caring about the welfare of their members especially their emotional and mental health.
  • To imbibe collective care as a communal responsibility of the group rather than the lone task of an individual.

 
Outcomes of the Activity
The participants now have a better understanding of the importance of caring about the wellbeing of one another especially their emotional and mental health.
Next Steps
Meditation/yoga exercise for improving wellbeing of girls and young women.
